Reflectarray Antenna Using Minkowski-Unitcell with Beam Steering Capability for Wi-Fi Applications

The demand for high-performance antennas with precise beam-steering capabilities has driven significant advancements in wireless communication systems. Reflectarray antennas have emerged as an effective solution, providing a planar, lightweight structure with high directivity and beam-steering flexibility. This study proposes a reflectarray antenna operating at the Wi-Fi frequency of 2.4 GHz to address challenges related to interference and signal delivery efficiency in wireless networks. The antenna features a 20 × 20 array of Minkowski-shaped unit cells, each carefully engineered for precise phase modulation to achieve beam steering at a specific angle of 20°. Simulations demonstrate a substantial gain of 24.8 dBi in the intended direction, exhibiting superior directional performance compared to traditional antenna configurations. The design effectively minimizes energy losses due to scattering and undesired radiation, ensuring reliable signal propagation. The findings establish Minkowski-based reflectarray antennas as a robust solution for enhancing gain, directivity, and energy efficiency in advanced wireless communication systems.
