Optimal Configuration of Storage Facilities in Medium Voltage Power Distribution Systems with Renewable Power Generation
As <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$a$</tex> management solution for distributed power sources with high penetration rates, active distribution networks have received increasing attention. The energy storage facilities have been adopted in active power distribution networks to alleviate the impact of intermittent renewable sources to the reliable and safe network operation. However, the capacity configuration and site selection are considered important which directly affect the effectiveness and cost of composite energy storage facilities in the power distribution systems. This work presents an optimal solution for identifying the location and sizing of the storage units in power distribution systems considering the presence of distributed renewable energy sources. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is used to solve the optimization problem and determine the capacity ratio of batteries and supercapacitors. Finally, the proposed solution is evaluated through simulation experiments and the numerical results confirmed the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed solution.
