Design of Flexible Charging Simulator for Electric Vehicles

The widespread use of electric vehicles (EVs) has made the charging methods for their batteries a critical issue that warrants examination. Significantly, the battery part is an essential cost item in EVs. In addition to vehicle usage, charging practices also considerably affect battery life. In this study, unnecessary battery degradation has been tried to be prevented while considering the demands of vehicle users. For this purpose, a simulation model has been proposed that allows users to select battery capacity, charging current, and battery health mode based on their preferences. Battery life can be extended with more flexible charging instead of constantly wearing out the battery with stable, fast charging. In this way, a more sensitive and user-vehicle interactive charging can be performed. Due to this approach, some improvements can be observed in the degradation graph of the battery, and the aging phenomenon is reduced substantially. The simulator has been designed with the help of a general user interface (GUI) based on MATLAB/Simulink environment. This user-friendly interface design also prevents unnecessary charging and eliminates unwanted load shedding on the grid.
