Helical Phased Array Module for High Power Transmission
A helical antenna array module with high power handling capability from 6.6 to 11.2 GHz is designed for manufacturing using 3D printing. This 4 × 1 array consists of four 2 × 1 helix subarrays each fed with a WRD650 double ridge waveguide that is bifurcated into two single ridge waveguides which transition into the monofilar helix elements. Antenna scans ±23° over the frequency band with S11 below −10 dB, peak gain of 18.1 dBic, and axial ratio below 3 dB at the direction of the steered beam. Over the steering range, the scan loss is less than 2.2 dB. The simulation results show that theoretical effective isotropic radiated power between 47.1 dBW and 58.9 dBW can be obtained while scanning.
