Abstract

A four-channel transmit, four-channel receive 3UVPX tuner plus digitizer platform all contained within a single 1-inch pitch chassis is developed leveraging a multichannel highspeed digitizer integrated circuit (IC) called the AD9084 Apollo MxFE <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">${ }^{\text {TM }}$</tex>. The system can serve as an integral building block for wideband phased array backend electronics. The module enables wideband digitization up to 5GSPS data rates to achieve a 4 GHz instantaneous bandwidth (IBW) per channel and covers a frequency tuning range between <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$0.1-20 \text{GHz}$</tex>. A single unit is comprised of both a Digitizer Base Card and a Tuner Personality Card. The digital offload options include on-board memory as well as both copper and optical Ethernet interfaces enabled by a FPGA/SoC combination collocated with a multichannel digitizer IC on the Digitizer Base Card. Several front-end networks leveraging new multi-function RFIC technology for the Tuner Personality Card are also covered. Additionally, this paper describes key digitizer IC hardened digital signal processing (DSP) features for wideband phased array applications, such as low latency loopback, fast-frequency-hopping, on-chip FFT sniffing and dynamic reconfiguration.
