Pattern Reconfiguration of a Transparent and Flexible Antenna Using PIN Diodes
In this paper, we propose a transparent, flexible and pattern-reconfigurable planar antenna operating at 5.8 GHz, fed by coplanar waveguide (CPW). It switches different pattern modes by switching diodes on and off to realize the diversification of antenna functions. The overall structure of the antenna is a combination of a monopole antenna and two parasitic directors/reflectors, using $\mathbf{6 5 0}$-nm-thick indium tin oxide (ITO) as conductor and $\mathbf{0. 1 2 5 - m m}$-thick polyethylene terephthalate (PET) as substrate. The radiation patterns of reconfigurable antenna are switched between two different modes, horizontal Mode 1 and vertical Mode 2. The maximum gain of the antenna works in horizontal mode 1 is 4.69 dBi, and the maximum gain of the antenna works in vertical mode 2 is $3.16 \mathbf{d B i}$.
