Dual-Mode Antenna Element with Application in a Linear Monopulse Phased Array

In this paper, an application of angle-of-arrival for a single frequency dual-mode circular antenna element is shown. First, the radiation patterns for the dual-mode element are established, capable of generating Sum and Difference patterns. Then, the ratio of the co polarized radiation patterns is shown to confirm the linear region expected for the use in monopulse processing. Finally, the use of this element to overcome the angle ambiguity issue of a linear phased array in angle-of-arrival is presented.

Abstract

In this paper, an application of angle-of-arrival for a single frequency dual-mode circular antenna element is shown. First, the radiation patterns for the dual-mode element are established, capable of generating Sum and Difference patterns. Then, the ratio of the co polarized radiation patterns is shown to confirm the linear region expected for the use in monopulse processing. Finally, the use of this element to overcome the angle ambiguity issue of a linear phased array in angle-of-arrival is presented.
