Wide-Angle Beam Steering Ka-band Rx Active Phased Array for Satellite Communications

This paper presents the development of a Ka-band Rx phased array designed for SATCOM applications. This dual circularly-polarized antenna array allows to steer its beam up to 70° in all planes, while maintaining a low axial ratio for all incident angles. The architecture and main challenges of the design are presented, along with experimental characterization validating the performance of the array.

Abstract

This paper presents the development of a Ka-band Rx phased array designed for SATCOM applications. This dual circularly-polarized antenna array allows to steer its beam up to 70° in all planes, while maintaining a low axial ratio for all incident angles. The architecture and main challenges of the design are presented, along with experimental characterization validating the performance of the array.
