Adaptive Active Filter and Wavelet PWM-Based Multilevel Inverter Structure for Improved Power Systems in More Electric Aircraft

In this study, a single-phase three-level inverter design suitable for More Electric Aircraft (MEA) applications is presented. To enhance energy efficiency and improve power quality, a wavelet-based switching method (Wavelet PWMWPWM) is employed. This proposed WPWM approach for MEA power systems is compared with the bipolar and unipolar techniques of sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM), which are widely preferred in the literature, and their performances are analyzed. Considering the limitations of these commonly used inverter topologies, an adaptive active filter (AAF) structure is integrated into the system alongside the standard LC filter configuration to minimize harmonic distortion and optimize power factor. The AAF dynamically controls reactive power, working in conjunction with the LC filter to decrease harmonic distortion and improve the power factor. This innovative combination meets the highperformance and reliability requirements of MEA applications, optimizing the efficiency of the power conversion system. The results obtained in this study demonstrate that the proposed inverter design offers significant advantages in terms of energy efficiency and power quality in MEA systems, exhibiting superior performance compared to conventional inverter designs.
