Feasibility Study of Circularly Polarized, Low Profile, Metasurface enhanced Antenna Array for SATCOM
This paper presents a feasibility study of a novel circularly polarized (CP), low-profile, high-gain antenna array enhanced with metasurfaces for satellite communication applications. Unit cell prototype of array consists of a simple patch antenna with coaxial feed as first layer and a Metasurface lattice on second layer acting as a superstrate. Metasurface enhanced antenna is fabricated on FR4 and successfully tested for real satellite signal reception. Paper discusses a step-by-step approach to use this antenna for array and in what configuration. An optimum distance along with geometry is calculated for placement of array elements. Then 1 × 5 uniform linear array is simulated in its entirety and results are presented. The presented array is good contender for low cost SATCOM array for anti-jamming scenario.
