Dielectric Media for Enhancing Multi-Band Antennas

Enhancing existing antenna arrays is desirable due to the potential SWaP-C (size, weight, power, and cost) savings compared to completely replacing with new technologies. To this end, engineered dielectric media have seen tremendous interest in recent years due to their potential for augmenting legacy antennas with low cost, broadband, and polarization insensitive solutions. This paper presents design strategies based on gradient index (GRIN) lenses and dielectric rod arrays for multi-band antenna enhancement applications.

Abstract

Enhancing existing antenna arrays is desirable due to the potential SWaP-C (size, weight, power, and cost) savings compared to completely replacing with new technologies. To this end, engineered dielectric media have seen tremendous interest in recent years due to their potential for augmenting legacy antennas with low cost, broadband, and polarization insensitive solutions. This paper presents design strategies based on gradient index (GRIN) lenses and dielectric rod arrays for multi-band antenna enhancement applications.
