Performance of Raised Cosine Pulses over AWGN Channel
A new binary digital modulation scheme using Raised Cosine RC Pulses is introduced and proposed for binary data transmission. The RC modulated signals are explained and depicted in relation to time <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$t$</tex> and pulse length <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$L$</tex>. The detection of these signals in Additive White Gaussian Noise AWGN is described and optimum receiver structures are derived. A closed-form expression for the bit error rate is obtained for the optimal receiver. The performance of these signals over noisy channel is analyzed and compared to conventional modulation schemes. The impact of changing the pulse length on bit error rate performance is also examined.
