Applicability Investigation on the Recommendation ITU-R P. 1147 at Medium Frequency of 540-1530 kHz

To evaluate the accuracy and practicality of the field strength prediction method for medium frequency (MF) propagation in mid-latitude regions, this paper assesses the field strength prediction accuracy of the Recommendation ITU-R P. 1147 method based on measured data from both temporal and spatial perspectives. The root mean square error (RMSE) between the measured and predicted values was calculated, and the distribution characteristics were evaluated using the statistics method. The results show that this method’s RMSE is 4.22 dB. The total sample size is 345, with 66.7% falling within the mean ±1 standard deviation range. The propagation circuits are grouped according to transmitters, among which the Baltimore group has the most minor average error at 3.17 dB, the Portland group with an average error of 4.83 dB, and the Grand Island group with the most significant average error at 5.25 dB. The validation results highlight the practical effectiveness of this method for medium to long-distance propagation.
