An integrated feed Ultrawideband Tightly-Coupled Dipole Antenna (TCDA) Array for mm-wave 5G Communication systems

In this paper, a $5 \times 5$ elements linear polarized, ultra-wideband Tightly-Coupled Dipole Antenna Array has been proposed for mm-wave 5G communication systems. The design configuration comprises tightly couple dipoles integrated with a simplified $\Gamma$-shaped feedline. The wide impedance matching bandwidth is realized by employing specific number of vias connecting the dipole to the ground. Additionally, E-walls in the form of horizontal strip lines were incorporated beneath the dipole arms to effectively suppress unwanted common-mode resonance at the antenna operating frequency. Furthermore, a superstrate is introduced as a top layer for the enhancement of the impedance bandwidth. Through the simulation results, it was demonstrated that the proposed TCDA covers a wide bandwidth spanning from ($19.9 \text{GHz}-52 \text{GHz}$), while attaining a high gain of 16.5 dB. The proposed TCDA has been compared with the state-of-the-art designs and it was observed that proposed TCDA exhibits a low profile, fully planar structure and better performance, which make it a best candidate for a wide range of $\mathbf{m m}$-wave applications.
