A Revised Port Coupling Design Formula for Microwave Filters

A revised design formula for port coupling is proposed in microwave filters. The port coupling can be determined by expressing the group delay with the external quality factor. The relationship between the ripple bandwidth of filter characteristics and external quality factors is established in this paper. With this in mind, the design formula for the port coupling is revised. This formula precisely and justifiably expresses the filter characteristic. The circuit principle of this formula is specified. A third-order and a four-order cavity filters are designed to verify the effectiveness.

Abstract

A revised design formula for port coupling is proposed in microwave filters. The port coupling can be determined by expressing the group delay with the external quality factor. The relationship between the ripple bandwidth of filter characteristics and external quality factors is established in this paper. With this in mind, the design formula for the port coupling is revised. This formula precisely and justifiably expresses the filter characteristic. The circuit principle of this formula is specified. A third-order and a four-order cavity filters are designed to verify the effectiveness.
