A Smart IoT Framework for Detecting Accidents and Facilitating Rescue Operations

The present study introduces an Internet of Things (IoT) sensor apparatus designed to improve road safety through the detection of accidents and the prompt notification of emergency services and nearby hospitals and notifying the patient's family members while capturing images of an injured individuals. The system utilizes a network of sensors deployed along roadways, equipped with accelerometers, GPS, and communication modules. Upon detecting a collision or abrupt motion indicative of an accident, the device triggers an emergency alert, transmitting the accident details and location to nearby hospitals and emergency responders via cellular or dedicated communication channels. Simultaneously, the system notifies the patient's registered family members, providing updates on the accident and the patient's condition. Additionally, an onboard camera captures images of the wounded person, aiding emergency responders in assessing the severity of injuries. Experimental evaluations demonstrate the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed IoT-based sensor device in detecting road accidents, facilitating prompt medical assistance, and providing timely communication to family members, thereby improving overall emergency response and support mechanisms.
