Design of a Miniaturized Low Profile Wideband Airborne Antenna
A miniaturized low profile wideband airborne antenna is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a monopole antenna with two slots, two short-circuited branches, and a large ground. These two slots inspired by the metasurface, introduce more open electric field components, thus improving the aperture distribution, and obtaining good radiation performance. By loading two short-circuited branches, a ringshaped resonance structure is formed, which is similar to the split-ring resonator (SRR). Therefore, the profile of the antenna is well reduced by tuning the capacitance (slots) and inductance (branches). In addition, the loop response creates a new resonance mode in the low-frequency region and expands the bandwidth. It exhibits the impedance bandwidth can reach 46.7% (from 2.15 to 3.46 GHz) by using the proposed method. it also maintains uniform omnidirectional radiation characteristics and low crosspolarization characteristics. With these mentioned merits, the proposed low-profile antenna is a good candidate for airborne and IoT applications.
