Wide-Beam Dielectric Resonator Antenna Based on Folded-Ground Structure with Half-Space Coverage
A dielectric resonator (DR) antenna (DRA) with half-space coverage is proposed. Folded ground introduces horizontal and vertical currents that enhance radiation in the low elevation angle direction, thereby broadening the half-power beamwidth (HPBWs) in both E- and H-planes. Additionally, modifying the shape of DR further enhances the radiation characteristics. Simulated results indicate that the proposed antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth of $2.3-2.7 \mathrm{GHz}(16 \%)$ with HPBWs exceeding 212° in E-plane and 174° in H-plane. Moreover, the antenna exhibits low cross-polarization in the radiation patterns.
