An Acoustically Actuated Magnetoelectric Antenna at Ultra-high Frequency

Multiphysics modeling of acoustically actuated magnetoelectric (ME) antennas has always been a challenge. In this work, acellular model of the ME FBAR antenna incorporating nonlinear magnetostrictive (MS) properties accounts for material loss and effective magnetic field, enabling accurate prediction of resonance and radiation characteristics. The ME antenna prototype isdesigned and fabricated by silicon-based MEMS manufacturing technology. The near-field test results indicate the antenna operates at 1.85 GHz, closely aligning with the model’s prediction. The effective transmission bandwidth of 1 dB of the ME antenna reaches 8.43% with a significant broadband radiation advantage.
