Highly Visible Transparent Broadband Metamaterial Radar Absorber Based on Micron-Scale Meshed Metal

In this study, a highly visible transparent broadband metamaterial radar absorber based on micron-scale meshed metal is presented. The designed absorber is a sandwich structure composed of lossy layer, transparent dielectric layer and reflective layer from top to bottom. Taking advantage of the high visible transmittance and good conductivity of micron-scale metal, different meshed metal patterns are deposited on the top and bottom of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates. The simulation results show that the structure displays exceeding 90% absorptivity in the 10.55 to 26.63 GHz frequency range. Moreover, the proposed absorber maintains over 80% absorptivity at an incident angle of 50° and is insensitive to various polarization angles due to its quadruple symmetric design. Therefore, potential applications for the proposed transparent absorber include optical windows such as aircraft cockpits, ship portholes and equipment windows.
