A High Gain and Low-Profile Millimeter Wave Antenna with Bidirectional Beams

A high gain and low-profile antenna with bidirectional beams is proposed in this paper. Moreover, it is the first time that an antenna with bidirectional beams was achieved by integrating folded transmitarray (FTA) and Fabry-Perot Cavity antenna (FPC). The proposed antenna comprises of a dual-polarized feed, a transmitarray (TA) and a partially reflective surface (PRS). The TA can transmit y-polarized electromagnetic (EM) wave and reflect x-polarized EM waves. On the contrary, the PRS can partially reflect x-polarized EM wave and fully reflect y-polarized EM wave. Hence, by hybridizing FTA and FPC the high gain and low-profile antenna with bidirectional beams was achieved. Finally, the profile of the proposed antenna is only $1.52 \lambda_{0}$. The proposed antenna can achieve 18 dBi and 21 dBi in the bidirectional directions at 35 GHz, respectively.
