Broadband RCS Reduction Based on Low Profile Polarization Reflective Metasurface
In this paper, a metasurface composed of a broadband reflective polarization conversion unit cell is proposed. It can reduce the radar cross section (RCS) by rotating the polarization of the input electromagnetic wave during reflection. The three-layer dielectric substrate and the metal patch similar to the double L-shaped and double arrows etched on the surface of the substrate are combined into a unit cell with high polarization conversion ratio. The simulation results show that the polarization conversion ratio of the unit cell reaches more than $\mathbf{9 0 \%}$ in the range of $9.6 \sim 41.0 \text{GHz}(124.1 \%)$. The unit cell array and the mirror array are arranged in a checkerboard pattern to form a metasurface with a lower value ($0.112 \lambda_{\text {max }}$) for the entire profile. The designed metasurface produces an excellent RCS reduction effect of more than 10 dB in $\text{Ku}, \text{K} \& \text{Ka}$ band.
