A SIW-Based High Gain Wideband Filtering Antenna for 5G mmWave Application

In this context, a high gain wideband mmWave filtering antenna is proposed. The radiator of the proposed antenna is fed by Substrate-Integrated-Waveguide (SIW) through special coupling feed slot, which consists of a cross patch and four patches with cross slot. Due to the special shape of the coupling slot, the impedance matching of the antenna is optimized. In order to improve filtering response, filtering vias are loaded in SIW. Furthermore, cross slots are etched on the five patches to generate radiation null at the upper band edge. Simulation results indicate that the proposed antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth ranging from 35.8 to 43.7 GHz, which bandwidth covers the $\mathbf{n 2 5 9}$ ($39.5-43.5 \mathrm{GHz}$) and $\mathbf{n 2 6 0}(37-40 \mathrm{GHz})$ of the 5G mmWave operation band. The proposed antenna achieves an average realized gain of 10.7 dBi and a peak realized gain of $\mathbf{1 2. 2 d B i}$. Meanwhile, a broadband filtering characteristic is obtained.
