Frequency-Reconfigurable Metasurface Antenna With a Wide Tuning Range
A frequency-reconfigurable antenna is proposed for WiMAX applications. It is composed of a metasurface and a slot antenna. The metasurface consists of isosceles triangular unit cells with a large length-to-width ratio, which can significantly improve the tuning range. It is possible to physically rotate the metasurface to change the operating frequency of the antenna. The measured results indicate that the operating frequency can be adjusted from 2.38 GHz to 3.82 GHz with a wide tuning range of 46.5% when the metasurface rotates from 0° to 90°. A good radiation pattern is obtained, and the peak gain in the operational frequency band is 5.62 dBi.
