Demonstration of High-Speed Target Detection with Broadband Microwave Photonic Radar

In this paper, high-speed target detection by a broadband microwave photonic radar having a bandwidth of 8 $\mathrm{GHz}(10-18 \mathrm{GHz})$ is demonstrated in which a method based on fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) is applied to address the spectral broadening problem and achieve accurate range and speed estimation. The detection of a target with the speed of 11~12 $\mathrm{m} / \mathrm{s}$ and $340 \mathrm{~m} / \mathrm{s}$ are carried out through experiment and semiphysical simulation, respectively. The results verify the effectiveness of the FrFT-based method in addressing the spectral broadening effect and accurately estimating the target parameters.
