Fully metallic linear to circular polarization converter based on single-layer FSS with high angular stability

This paper proposes a design of a transmissive linear to circular polarization converter with a 70 degrees angular stability. The designed structure is fully metallic and single-layer with a unit cell of cloverleaf slots. Simulation results display the polarization converter can convert incident linearly polarized waves into transmitted circularly polarized waves in 10-11.8GHz with axis ratio and insertion loss less than 3dB under normal incidence, and maintain stable axis ratio(<3dB) and insertion loss(<2.57dB) performance in 10-10.57GHz under an incidence angle of 0-70 degrees. The design with a single-layer fully metallic structure and a ultra-high angular stability is particularly useful in aerospace and satellite communication.
