A Wideband 1-Bit Dual-Linearly Polarized Reconfigurable Transmitarray Antenna

A wideband 1-bit dual-linearly polarized reconfigurable transmitarray antenna (RTA) at C-band is presented. The unit cell adopts a receive-ground-transmit structure, with two PIN diodes placed on the receiving structure, which generates two states with a phase difference of 180°. The transmitting structure also has two orthogonally placed PIN diodes, thus generating two states with different linear polarization. The unit size is $\lambda_{0} / 3$, with a 3 dB bandwidth of 41.3%. A transmitarray with $16 \times 16$ units and aperture size of $5.3 \lambda_{0} \times 5.3 \lambda_{0}$ at $6.5 \mathbf{G H z}$ is designed. A standard gain horn antenna with a gain of 10 dBi is used as the feed source. The simulated results show that the 3 dB gain bandwidth of the y-polarized state transmitarray is $\mathbf{3 4. 1} \%$, and the $\mathbf{3 ~ d B}$ gain bandwidth of the x-polarized state transmitarray is $\mathbf{2 6. 4} \%$. The y -polarized state transmitarray achieves a maximum gain of 20 dBi with an aperture efficiency of 28.3%, while the x-polarizaed state transmitarray also achieves a maximum gain of 20.1 dBi with an aperture efficiency of 29%.
