A W-band Four-channel Transmitter with 18 Gbps Peak Data Rate in Single Carrier Mode

With the increasing demand for higher wireless transmission rates in communication systems, the performance of mm-wave RF front-ends faces more severe challenges. This paper conducts relevant research on a W-band phased array transmitter. Firstly, a W-band patch antenna unit is designed, with a gain of approximately $7 \mathbf{~ d B i}$ at $92 \mathbf{~ G H z}$. Based on this element, a $1 \times 4$ array is designed, with an E-plane scanning angle of up to ± 32°. Then, combined with the W-band Si-based TX chip and the GaAs upconversion chip, utilizing low-loss connection technology and heterogeneous integration technology, a four-channel W-band phased array transmission system is implemented on PCB. Finally, the system reaches a peak EIRP of 33.49 dBm at 92 GHz. At a wireless transmission distance of 0.7 m and a center frequency of 92 GHz, for $16-\mathrm{QAM}$ at 1 Gsym/s and 64-QAM at 1.2 Gsym/s modulation signals, the EVM is $\mathbf{3. 3 5} \%$ and $\mathbf{3. 3 8} \%$, respectively. In the single-carrier mode, the system achieves a wireless transmission rate of 18 Gbps.
