STAR-RIS Aided Communication System With Movable Antennas Exploiting Statistical CSI

Simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS) and movable antenna (MA) are two promising technologies to reshape wireless channels and improve communication performance. To reap their synergic gains, this letter investigates a STAR-RIS aided communication system with MAs to maximize the ergodic sum-rate of multiple users by exploiting statistical channel state information (CSI). To tackle this problem, an efficient algorithm based on the alternating optimization (AO) and fractional programming (FP) framework is proposed to jointly optimize the transmission and reflection coefficients (TRCs) at the STAR-RIS, the beamformer, and the positions of MAs at base station. Numerical results show that each individual technology has a limited control over the wireless channel conditions, but combining STAR-RIS and MA can further boost the ergodic sum-rate.
