STUDY THE EFFECT OF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HEAT TREATMENT AND MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTIC BEHAVIOR OF ALUMINUM–BORON CARBIDE COMPOSITE PREPARED USE POWDER METALLURGY TECHNIQUE

This work aims to investigate how sintering affects the mechanical characteristics of Al − −B4C composites with metal matrix structure made using powder metallurgy methods. To determine the compaction pressure, compressibility was evaluated using the Al powder as obtained. 17.23 Mpa was the selected compaction pressure. Specimens made by mixing 10% weight B4C with both unreinforced and Al. At various temperatures (420, 470, 520, 570, 620, 670◦C) and soaking times (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 hours), sinterability was assessed. At 420, 470, 520, and 570◦C, mechanical tests showed modest enhancements in hardness, ultimate strength, and Young’s modulus; at 620 and 670◦C, however, there was an important rise in hardness and compression, as well as an improvement in elastic modulus.
