Enzymatic Potential of Bacteria Isolated From Bays of the Pantanal Mato Grosso

Objectives: To identify bacterial strains from the Pantanal and assess their resistance to different temperatures and pH levels. To evaluate, through molecular and biochemical analyses, their potential for producing lipases, cellulases, xylanases, and proteases. Theoretical Background: The Pantanal is a biome with unique characteristics, recognized for its high biodiversity, high organism density, and constant water and nutrient fluxes. Microbial enzymes are widely recognized in the industry for their high specificity and catalytic efficiency, leading to a growing demand for new enzyme-producing strains. Methods: The microorganisms used in this study were collected from four bays in the Pantanal region of Mato Grosso State, two years before the major wildfires of 2020, during both the dry and wet seasons. Conventional culturing, isolations, biochemical tests, and DNA extraction were the initial steps for selecting candidates for enzymatic production assays, specifically for lipases, cellulases, xylanases, and proteases. Results and Discussion: The results highlight the biotechnological potential and enzymatic capabilities of the isolated bacterial strains. Future studies should focus on optimizing substrate concentrations and nitrogen sources to enhance enzyme production from these newly identified strains. Research Implications: The discovery of novel microorganisms and the screening for promising enzyme producers can contribute to industrial and technological applications. Studies employing diverse techniques have significant implications and impacts on both basic and applied research. Originality/Value: Bacteria from the Pantanal in Mato Grosso remain largely unexplored. Despite this pioneering study, the sampling size is minimal considering the vast area of the biome and the diversity of ecosystems. This work aims to stimulate interest in expanding applied microbiology research, particularly in studying strains from environments undergoing constant changes.
