The level of hypoxia-induced factor-1a and associated molecules in preeclampsia

To study the content of hypoxia-induced factor-1a (GIF-1α), erythropoietin, vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), uric acid, iodothyronines (T3, T4), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in preeclampsia (PE), their possible role in hypoxia and inflammation accompanying preeclampsia. Material and methods. Biomolecules were studied in blood serum using standard kits. Results. An increase in the level of HIF-1α in blood serum was shown in both moderate and severe PE. In severe form, this increase was more pronounced than in moderate form. It was found that in individual patients with PE, the content of uric acid does not increase, which is regarded by us as an indicator of the heterogeneity of PE. An increase in TSH content was also revealed against the background of a normal level of free T4, which is regarded as an indicator of subclinical hypothyroidism and affects the course of PE. The levels of erythropoietin and VEGF-A as molecules controlled by HIF-1α are presented differently in PE. Erythropoietin levels were elevated in moderate PE and normal in severe PE, while VEGF-A levels were reduced. Conclusion. HIF-1α is the most important link that allows the body to partially adapt to hypoxia in PE. However, this mechanism is insufficient for full adaptation to hypoxia, especially in conditions of a growing fetus.
