Enhancing the efficiency and stability of hydraulic ram pump design
This study investigates the performance of three hydraulic ram pump (HRP) designs, focusing on the arrangement of key components: check valve, air chamber, and waste valve. Experiments were conducted using a test bench equipped with precision sensors, including 5VDC strain-gauge pressure transducers (AUTEX) with a range of 0–100 m of water and 1% accuracy, to capture pressure dynamics at the pump's inlet and outlet. The findings revealed that design 3 achieved the highest efficiency (9.81% at H = 45 cm), superior pressure stability (156–158 kPa), and higher flow rates compared to design 1, which showed significant pressure fluctuations and reduced efficiency. Design 2 failed to operate under all conditions, underscoring the critical role of component sequencing in HRP functionality. These results highlight the potential of design 3 for dynamic applications requiring efficiency and adaptability, while design 1 is better suited for controlled environments demanding precise and stable flow delivery.
