Effect of femtosecond laser composite texturing on tribological properties of 316LN stainless steel

Abstract As the working conditions of machining equipment become increasingly harsh, although 316LN stainless steel has good intergranular corrosion resistance and high-temperature mechanical properties, due to its relatively soft hardness, technical methods are still needed to improve its wear resistance. In this paper, after studying the mechanism of action of discrete texture and continuous texture, it is considered to be compounded. Two kinds of composite textures were designed, namely circular and grooved textures (CG) and rectangular and grooved textures (RG). The texture was prepared by femtosecond laser surface texturing technology (LST). The effects of different composite texture shapes and texture gaps on the tribological properties of materials were studied by reciprocating linear friction and wear tests. The results show that when the texture gap is 0.3mm, the composite texture has a tendency to improve the tribological properties. The friction coefficient is between 0.13-0.15, and the friction coefficient is stable, with RG exhibiting the best effect. Under the oil lubrication conditions, it is observed by scanning electron microscopy that the textured sample is mainly abrasive wear, accompanied by slight adhesive wear.
