Research on the aerodynamic characteristics of simulated ice-covered aluminum stranded wire under wind tunnel
Abstract This study studied the aerodynamic characteristics of a wire through wind tunnel experiments. The purpose of simulating icing conditions by wrapping conductors with plastic packaging tape is to evaluate the influence of icing on the aerodynamic characteristics of transmission lines. The tension and aerodynamic coefficients of aluminum-stranded wire and simulated ice-covered aluminum-stranded wire are tested using a wind tunnel. The results indicate that the increase in wind speed causes an increase in tension and drag coefficient. It is also found that icing significantly enhances the aerodynamic effect of the cable. This has guiding significance for the design and maintenance of transmission lines.
