Experience in Teaching the Discipline “Rehabilitation in Obstetrics and Gynecology” Within the Professional Education Program “Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy”

Introduction. Rehabilitation in obstetrics and gynecology is defined as a comprehensive set of measures designed to restore a woman’s functional abilities, preserve reproductive function, improve quality of life, and minimize the risk of disability. The study aimed to share the experience of teaching the discipline “Rehabilitation in Obstetrics and Gynecology” to second (master’s) degree students majoring in the specialty “Therapy and Rehabilitation” at Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University. Results. During the course, students develop a deep understanding of physical rehabilitation principles, focusing on developing algorithms for creating rehabilitation programs for women with normal and pathological pregnancies, childbirth and postpartum periods, post-surgical deliveries, and gynecological conditions. The curriculum is designed to cultivate both general and professional competencies as specified in the Professional Education Program, focusing on developing students’ abilities to identify, formulate, and address patient problems using foundational knowledge, clinical skills, and reflective thinking, as well as improving their understanding of complex pathological processes and disorders that can be managed through physical therapy. The discipline aims to develop a comprehensive system of theoretical knowledge and practical skills for the differentiated application of physical therapy methods in treating female reproductive disorders at all rehabilitation stages based on an understanding of the mechanisms involved in restoring and compensating for impaired functions. Conclusions. The development of the rehabilitation field in Ukraine requires highly skilled professionals. Studying the discipline “Rehabilitation in Obstetrics and Gynecology” is essential for students majoring in specialty 227 “Therapy and Rehabilitation”, as it provides the foundation for developing the professional skills and competencies necessary for delivering qualified rehabilitative care in obstetrics and gynecology. The educational process should prioritize competency-based and student-centered approaches, incorporating contextual and problem-based learning methodologies.
