O USO DO METILFENIDATO NO TRATAMENTO DO TRANSTORNO DE DÉFICIT DE ATENÇÃO E HIPERATIVIDADE E SUA RELAÇÃO COM O DESENVOLVIMENTO INFANTO-JUVENIL
The article explores the use of methylphenidate in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and its potential effects on the development of children and adolescents. ADHD affects between 3% and 7% of children and is characterized by inattention and/or hyperactivity. Methylphenidate is widely used to control symptoms, but its prolonged use may cause side effects such as insomnia, irritability, and emotional issues. Studies suggest impacts on cognitive development, including impairments in working memory and divided attention, as well as negative social effects, such as increased isolation and peer rejection. The article advocates for a multidisciplinary treatment approach, combining medication with complementary therapies, to minimize risks and ensure the well-being of children and adolescents.
