Influence of the certain mydriatics on the eye anterior segment hemoperfusion in uveitis

The vasotropic effects of certain mydriatics of different pharmacological groups (1% atropine sulfate solution and 2,5% phenylephrine hydrochloride solution) were studied by assessing the pressure in the anterior ciliary arteries and the perfusion pressure in the eye anterior segment (EAS) in uveitis. The patients with acute anterior uveitis and peripheral uveitis were included in the study. Healthy subjects represented control group. Phenylephrine caused an increase but atropine a decrease in EAS hemoperfusion rates. Further studies of the mydriatics effects on EAS hemoperfusion in hyper- and hypoprefusion syndromes are necessary for the individual selection of drugs with vasotropic activity in patients with different forms of uveitis. Keywords: uveitis, anterior, peripheral, anterior segment of the eye, hemoperfusion, atropine, phenylephrine, anterior ciliary arteries, mean hemodynamic pressure, perfusion pressure
