Analysis of Wind-Wave Impact on Open Wave Channel Systems

Abstract The growing demand for renewable energy has catalyzed research and development in harnessing wave energy. The Open Wave Channel (OWC) system presents an experimental approach for generating waves, facilitating marine energy studies aimed at powering wave-based renewable energy facilities. This study introduces an innovative wave generation method, distinct from traditional sinusoidal wave generation techniques. By analyzing wind-induced wave oscillations, this method produces more complex waveforms that better reflect actual offshore conditions, moving beyond simple sinusoidal shapes. The study’s objective is to examine the impact of wind speed and direction on key parameters, such as wave height and flow velocity, within energy conversion devices like the oscillating water column system. Results highlight the complexity of offshore conditions, showing how wind-induced wave dynamics affect the performance of offshore turbine systems. This research contributes to improving turbine efficiency and supports strategic deployment of renewable energy projects in Vietnamese waters.
