Sustainability Assessment of Roofing Technologies in the UAE using MCDM Methods
Adaptations of roofing technologies have made a significant contribution to developing urban environment conditions and reducing CO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> emissions. There are several roofing technologies to consider for this purpose, therefore the implementation of MCDM techniques while focusing the light on the UAE due to the current environment problems is important. This paper proposes a framework to assess the economic and environmental performance of several roofing technologies, considering a private property case study in the UAE. The expert perspective as well as the literature review conducted have highlighted the importance of including 4 economic sub-criteria and 5 environmental sub-criteria, while also considering 6 different alternatives to evaluate using the AHP-TOPSIS method. The results have shown that the green roof was the best alternative due to its balanced performance among economic as well as environmental criteria.
