A System Dynamics Approach for Assessing the Sustainability Impacts of Pink Fuels in Taxi Transportation in UAE

Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas release greenhouse gases into the environment, leading to environmental, economic, social, and health concerns. A major obstacle stands in energy and transportation industries reducing their reliance on fossil fuels and their carbon footprint. To lessen these impacts, it is necessary to decrease or eradicate the carbon footprint, and alternative carbon-free energy sources must be pursued. Hydrogen has been suggested as a feasible energy source for the transportation sector to solve this problem without emitting greenhouse gases. This research investigates the sustainability impact of hydrogen fuel transportation (specifically taxis) in the UAE. It will employ “pink” hydrogen fuel that has not been discussed in previous research in transportation services to evaluate hydrogen fuel demand and to develop a hydrogen fuel system to lower carbon emissions and promote a low-carbon economy. A System Dynamics (SD) model is built to analyze factors influencing future demand for hydrogen fuel. This model will connect elements through qualitative causal loop diagrams, addressing barriers such as fuel prices, hydrogen adoption rates, economic and environmental impacts, infrastructure, policy and technological innovation, stakeholder behavior, and taxi fleet profiles. This will allow for evaluating the factors that endorse hydrogen's progress and classify barriers that delay it. The results of the causal-loop diagram integrated into the SD model will reveal the key factors driving the demand for Pink Hydrogen fuels in taxi transportation. It will also assess stakeholder contributions to determine the long-term sustainability impacts of hydrogen fuel adoption in the UAE.
