Investigating the Challenges of the Forensic Engineering Case Reporting Processes: Dubai Police Case Study
The Forensic Engineering field faces several challenges including the inability to identify failure root causes and a lack of standardized examination and analysis procedures. In Dubai Police, the Forensic engineering department faces the challenge of extended lead times in their case reporting process that exceeds the target of 7 days. This study aims to investigate the underlying challenges leading to these delays. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, including a literature review and interviews with the Forensic Engineering Department followed by data analysis using Structured Query Language (SQL), Microsoft Power BI, and Minitab. Long lead times for certain case categories, inconsistent working days over the year, and unbalanced examiner caseloads are major contributors to delays. The paper suggests assigning cases to examiners based on their expertise and current caseload, using data analytics to streamline processes and improve case resolution timelines.
