Blockchain-Based Certification in the Meat Industry
This paper explores the potential of blockchain technology to enhance the transparency, efficiency, and reliability of the European Union (EU) Organic Certification process in the meat industry. With increasing consumer demand for traceable and ethically produced meat, traditional certification methods face challenges such as complexity, fraud, and lack of transparency. Blockchain technology, known for its immutable record-keeping and decentralized verification, is posited as a solution to these issues. By creating a tamper-proof ledger for every transaction within the supply chain, blockchain facilitates a new level of accountability and trust in organic meat products. The paper details the design of a private, permissioned Ethereum blockchain network to implement this solution, offering a structured approach to track compliance and ensure the integrity of organic certifications throughout the supply chain.
