Internet Of Things: to Determine The Correlation Between People Occupancy And Energy Consumption In Buildings

Modern buildings are increasingly designed to be energy-efficient due to growing environmental sustainability awareness and efforts to reduce carbon footprints. Government Regulation Number 33 of 2023 in Indonesia supports energy conservation and building efficiency. Human occupancy is a key factor influencing energy consumption, making it crucial to monitor and optimize energy use based on occupancy levels. This study investigates the correlation between occupancy and energy consumption over 31 days, utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) technology to collect real-time data. The results show a positive relationship, with higher occupancy leading to increased energy consumption, while per-person energy use decreased, reflecting improved efficiency. However, anomalies were observed on low-occupancy days when energy consumption remained high, indicating the need for better system optimization. These findings underscore the importance of IoT in enhancing energy management and contribute to the broader effort to reduce energy use in modern buildings.
