A Novel Approach to University Startup Incubators by Using AI Powered Simulation and Gamification
The effectiveness of start-up incubators depends on their ability to identify and nurture entrepreneurial talent while efficiently allocating resources to ventures with the highest potential for success. This study presents a novel agent-based business simulation platform designed to serve as a preparatory stage for start-up incubation, leveraging a central Artificial Intelligence (AI) engine to replicate the complexities of a dynamic economy. In this simulation, university students manage hybrid businesses that combine AI-driven automation with human decision-making, offering an immersive and handson learning experience. A key innovation of the platform is its integration of a virtual currency, SIME (Short for Simulated Economy Token), operated by a fintech agent within the central AI. SIME serves as the primary medium of exchange in the virtual economy, incentivizing students to engage strategically with the simulation. Beyond its use in the simulated environment, SIME is designed to accrue real-world value by connecting to revenue streams from the university's business incubator, introducing participants to the economic potential of virtual currencies. A Python-based prototype is developed, showcasing the architecture and functionality of the simulation, including agent interactions, virtual currency transactions, and market adaptations driven by AI. This prototype demonstrates the simulation's capacity to generate actionable insights into resource allocation, performance metrics, and market dynamics, all of which support the incubator's decision-making processes. By bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application, the platform equips students with critical entrepreneurial skills and provides data-driven foundations for optimizing incubator operations. This study highlights how AIdriven simulations can transform start-up incubation by fostering innovation, supporting efficient use of funding and resources, and bridging the gap between virtual learning and real-world economic impact.
