Research on the horizontal 1 km experimental performance based on the optical pin beams
The atmospheric turbulence effect can lead to beam distortion, expansion, drift, and scintillation effects. The commonly used suppression methods mainly include channel coding techniques, adaptive optics technology, partially coherent beam transmission technology, and so on. However, these technologies have problems such as complex systems or unsatisfactory effects. In this paper, we propose a space optical communication scheme based on optical pin beams (OPB), which combines OPB with anti-diffraction characteristics and communication technology to establish a 1 km horizontal link for free-space optical communication. The coupling power and communication bit error rate (BER) of OPB and Gaussian beam under three different atmospheric turbulence intensities, strong, medium, and weak are compared. The experimental results show that the average power and 99% power (the power corresponding to the cumulative probability density of 0.99) of the OPB under three different turbulence intensities of strong, medium, and weak are all higher than those of the Gaussian beam, and the BER under the same turbulence intensity is lower than that of the Gaussian beam. This result provides a promising way to improve the coupling power and communication quality of free-space optical communication links.
