Multi-Fidelity Aerodynamic Shape Optimization Strategies: Minimizing Induced Drag and Achieving Desired Lift Distribution
This paper presents a novel, automated tool for optimizing aircraft wing aerodynamics using the software OpenVSP. This research emphasizes automation, eliminating the need for manual datasets, and providing a flexible solution adaptable to various aerodynamic constraints. The tool integrates a multi-objective Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm, enhanced with genetic algorithm techniques, to minimize induced drag and achieve target lift distributions within user-defined constraints. Initial results show significant reductions in induced drag and improvements in aerodynamic efficiency.
