Realization of a separate HVAC design, within the multi-purpose mega-project Doha Oasis in Qatar

This paper will present a brief overview of the design and implementation of the main project of air conditioning of two pedestrian glass-tunnel bridges, each with a span of app. 20 m (Bul.-bridge), and 21 m (SPA-World bridge), width and height of each: 3.44 x 3.52 m, with side walls and a ceiling made of Thermopane-glass panels, (the both at a height of app., 16 m from the ground), designed for connection of the 5-star Hotel, with the neighboring Shopping Mall and SPA Center, built within the Doha – OASIS mega-complex: a multi-purpose mega-project, with a usable area of 460,000 m2, located all in the old center of Doha, Qatar. With the design solution, the author of this expert paper has ensured that at the outside design air temperature of tadb=+47°C and high external humidity, that inside the area of both tunnel glass bridges the air temperature of + 24°C and about 40% RH is maintained, as well as to prevent the appearance of condensate on the floors of bridges (slope off: 8%). This was achieved by designing 3 inter-combined, energy-efficient and innovative HVAC systems, as follows: 1.-Radiant floor cooling system within each of the two bridges floors. 2.-Air conditioning system utilising of invisible Fan-coil apparatus of low height, hidden under the floor stainless-steel griles, built-in within the floor of the bridges, and mounted in the floor trenches (of a 350x300 mm cross-section, on both sides, along the glass outer walls of the bridges. 3.– A system with air curtains at hotel´s ends and air exhaust at the opposite ends, for maintaining overpressure within the space of these glass tunnel bridges.
