A Sustainable Approach to Improve Properties of PVC‐CNT Nanocomposites Using Waste Eggshell as Biofiller and Heat Stabilizer

Abstract Bio‐based polymer nanocomposites were prepared using polyvinyl chloride, waste eggshell, and carbon nanotube via melt mixing followed by compression molding technique. The eggshell and the complex of tannic acid with calcium oxide derived from eggshell were used as biofiller and heat stabilizer respectively. Functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotube ( f ‐MWCNT) and epoxidized soyabean oil were employed as inforcing nanofiller and compatibilizer during the preparation of the nanocomposite. The ratio of Polymer to biofiller was maintained at 60:40 and the amount of nanofiller varied from 0 to 0.75 phr. The nanocomposites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) study. Thermal analysis, mechanical properties, chemical resistance, and water absorption tests were also done for the nanocomposites. Nanocomposite with 0.25 phr loaded functionalized carbon nanotube showed maximum improvement in overall properties.
