Optimization of Pump Power Efficiency with a Hybrid Design of Artificial Lift Systems Based on Smart Design

Abstract Electrical submersible pumps are constrained by limited shaft brake horsepower for well production. To address this, this study develops a combined electrical submersible pump and gas lift system aimed at enhancing pump performance. The objectives are to reduce the number of stages, lower the energy requirements of the combined system, decrease the power consumption of the pump motors, and increase the production flow rate. Energy requirements for the pump are determined based on the generated pressure profile, and power gain is calculated from the resulting output. This research employed a simulation approach, with design and modeling carried out using software. The integration of the pump and gas lift system led to a 19.4% increase in production compared to a single pump system, a 32.45% reduction in energy consumption across five wells, and a decrease in power generation to stay within shaft brake horsepower limits
